Hello From The Future

I just realized that it's been a very long time since I have updated this site! Well, I've been done with my Invisalign treatment for so long that I felt there wasn't much to say. I realized that there are a few tidbits that I can share.

Since completing my treatment, I still wear the last Invisalign trays at night only. I started out wearing them every night for about a year. To be honest, I really can't stand the way that they feel in my mouth anymore. After that first year was over, I decided to sleep with them in every other night. Now, I am down to about 3 times a week. The trays still fit fairly well so it makes me feel confident that no shifting has occurred. I will probably continue with the 3 times a week routine for as long as the tray lasts me. Keep in mind this was my last tray of the set that I had. I never purchased the Invisalign retainer kit. I'm so glad that I didn't waste the money on it.

As for my teeth, I am still very happy with my results. I am still thrilled that I did it and the year that it took just seems like a speck in time.

Best of luck to you all on your very own Invisalign (or whatever orthodontics that you choose) Adventure!

Hello, I have been using my last trays of invisilgn as a retainer, wearing them only at night. The last couple of weeks I have found swelling and ulcers appearing inside my lips, and was wondering if you had ever experienced anything like this? I wonder if I am becoming allergic to the plastic, or if I just need to have a better cleaning system. I brush my trays twice a day very well, and sometimes soak them in listerine, i am considering denture cleaners.
Thanks!

Thanks for sharing with us your Invisalign success story, Sharon. My cousin also had Chicago Invisalign, and it worked well for him too. He said he had trouble adjusting to it at first, but he kept on looking at photos of beautiful smiles and that encouraged him to continue the treatment. How did you motivate yourself, Sharon?

By the way, I'm well aware that it's a big investment. Invisalign in Chicago is most likely not an exception. But based on the amount of positive stories that I've read, I'm sure it's worth every penny!

Wow that was an amazing result. I actually had Invisalign back in 2002 when I was in college. Now I'm a dentist and offer it myself!

PS - Klerner, its nearly impossible to be allergic to the plastic, because they are not actually made of conventional plastic but a medical grade polyurethane resin

Hi,

Your results were really terrific! I have some questions about refinement. I just finished an Invisalign Express and my ortho says I am done. He took off the buttons and took molds for my retainers. However, I have a couple of noticable black triangles in between some of my upper teeth..similar to the very small ones showing in your pre-refinement photo but mine are bigger. I am curious if your ortho was able to completely close up the spaces in your teeth. It appears that way from your "after" photos. My ortho never asked me if I was happy with my treatment when he said I was done and never mentioned anything about refinements.

I am thinking of getting invisalign (if i can afford it)

One question about the Attachments - what are they for?? and do they hurt at all?? the reason why I don't want proper braces is because I'm not keen on dentists! and i wouldn't want the Pain of getting the attachments off. (can it just work on the front teeth without moving the back ones???

the results are amazing! I wish I had heard about them when I was still 18 and could get them on the NHS!

Thanks, Becky

Hi!
Sharon, I love this blog, it has given me many answers. I just wonder what you did when you waited for refinements. Did the attachments have to come off (to make new pictures and so on) even though you used the last tray with "fitted bumps" in it? I'm afraid the teeth will start rotating if the attachments come off waiting for refinements. :-) Beautiful smile, congrats!

Hi Sharon! Your blog has been super helpful to me and was partially the reason that I went ahead and got Invisalign. You're teeth look perfect by the way (after everything is said and done)! Was it weird to get the attachments taken off after so long? Anyways thanks again!

ps. You've got beautiful teeth! Don't photoshop them white, just bleech them ;)

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with Invisalign. Like you, I'm in my mid-30's and was very concerned about the appearance of my crooked teeth. I was just fitted with my first set of retainers yesterday and so far, it's going well. Your "after" photos are inspiring! I look forward to having straighter teeth when this process is done.

I am 62 years old and in the 3rd week of my Invisalign. I am excited for this new adventure and am pleasantly surprised that they aren't as uncomfortable as I thought they might me! =) My one problem is at the beginning of each new aligner they are very, very hard to get out. My nails are very short and I have tried a crochet hook but it is still very difficult and frustrating. Is there a “tool” available to help with this? Thank you!

Sharon said...

If I remember correctly my orthodontist did give me some type of small hook for removing them. You may want to check with your orthodontist.
